Cape Town, South Africa – June 5, 2026

The 2026 International Chinese Communication Association (ICCA)–International Communication Association (ICA) Reception was held successfully on June 5 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, attracting an estimated 200–300 scholars from around the world in a vibrant celebration of academic excellence, international collaboration, and community.

The reception welcomed numerous distinguished guests, including ICA President Thomas Hanitzsch, former ICA Presidents Ang Peng Hwa, Terry Flew, and Noshir Contractor, as well as ICA Fellows, former Chinese Communication Association (CCA) Presidents, and leading scholars from across the globe. Among those attending were Jack Qiu, Shuhua Zhou, Yu-Li Liu, and many other prominent figures in the field of communication research.

A highlight of the evening was the memorial tribute honoring ICCA’s Founding President, Professor Chin-Chuan Lee. Through a special commemorative video and shared reflections, attendees celebrated Professor Lee’s extraordinary scholarly legacy and visionary leadership. Since founding the Chinese Communication Association in 1990, Professor Lee played a pivotal role in building an international academic community that has connected generations of scholars across cultures and continents.

“As ICCA President, it was my great honor to welcome colleagues and friends from around the world to our 2026 reception,” said Dr. Trisha T. C. Lin. “The memorial tribute allowed us to express our deepest respect and gratitude to Professor Chin-Chuan Lee, whose scholarship influenced generations and whose leadership built bridges across cultures. The global community gathered in Cape Town is a testament to the enduring vision he established more than three decades ago.”

The reception also celebrated ICCA’s continuing growth as a leading international scholarly association and provided opportunities for networking, collaboration, and recognition of academic achievements. The strong turnout reflected the vitality of the ICCA community and its commitment to advancing communication scholarship worldwide.

ICCA extends its sincere appreciation to all participants, supporters, and sponsors (School of Journalism at Fudan University and the College of Media and International Culture at Zhejiang University) who contributed to the success of this memorable event. As the association moves forward, it remains dedicated to fostering international dialogue, academic excellence, and the spirit of community that Professor Chin-Chuan Lee helped create.
