Dear ICCA colleagues and friends,

It is with deep gratitude and heartfelt excitement that I step into the role of President of the International Chinese Communication Association (ICCA). My journey with this community began 15 years ago, when I was a junior faculty member at WKWSCUm Nanyang Technological University searching for a place of belonging at international conferences. ICCA, with its roots in the Chinese Communication Association (CCA), quickly became that home for me. What I discovered was more than an academic network—it was a warm, supportive family that inspired my growth and ignited a lifelong passion to advance Chinese communication scholarship on the global stage.

▸ A Vision for ICCA

I envision ICCA as a vibrant and inclusive hub where dialogue, innovation, and visibility come together. To thrive in today’s dynamic landscape of global communication studies, we must not only cultivate excellent scholarship but also ensure our voices resonate beyond our immediate circle. Visibility and publicity are not simply about branding; they are how we showcase the vitality of Chinese communication scholarship, attract new generations of scholars, and influence broader academic and societal conversations.

At the same time, sustainability will guide our path forward. A strong, visible ICCA is one that endures—remaining impactful and relevant for decades to come. Most importantly, I want every member, from graduate students to senior scholars, to feel valued, supported, and inspired. Together, we can nurture intellectual creativity, foster career growth, and build lifelong friendships—while ensuring that our contributions are recognized and celebrated across the world.

▸ Looking Back

Over the years, I have been honored to serve ICCA in many capacities: building cross- platform synergy, promoting our activities, chairing research sessions, and amplifying our presence at ICA, NCA, and AEJMC. Along the way, I was humbled to receive service and research awards, which I regard not as personal honors but as reflections of our collective effort to raise the profile of Chinese communication studies.

These experiences taught me something essential: publicity and community building are inseparable. When our achievements are shared widely, our members benefit, our association grows, and our field gains visibility across disciplines and continents.

▸ Looking Forward

As we navigate a rapidly changing, post-pandemic academic world, ICCA stands at a pivotal juncture. Together, we have the opportunity to strengthen our role as both a home for scholars and a global platform for impact. My priorities as president are threefold:

  1. Rekindling Community and BelongingWe will deepen engagement through hybrid communication—listservs, newsletters, and social media alongside in-person receptions and workshops. These efforts will not only connect us but also spotlight the vibrancy of our members’ work.

  2. Empowering Members at Every StageFrom expanding mentorship programs to offering virtual career workshops, we will support our members’ journeys. By publicizing these stories, we also showcase the richness of our scholarship and the diversity of our voices.

  3. Expanding Global CollaborationsBeyond ICA, NCA, and AEJMC, ICCA will strengthen ties with partner associations in Asia and other areas, and        foster joint panels and publications. These collaborations will heighten ICCA’s international profile and open new doors for our members worldwide.

As I begin this presidency, I do so with humility, gratitude, and a profound sense of responsibility. ICCA has given me mentors, colleagues, and friends who have shaped both my career and my life. Now, I warmly invite you to join me in shaping the next chapter of ICCA: let us build a community that is not only a home for ideas but also a global platform where our research and voices are seen, heard, and celebrated.

Thank you for your trust. It is the greatest honor to serve you.

With warmth and commitment, Trisha Tsui-Chuan Lin President, International Chinese Communication Association (2025–2027) Distinguished Professor, College of Communication, National Chengchi University
