Rethinking Geopolitics of Global Communication
How is the global balance of communication power shifting—and what does it mean for the future of media and technology?
Join us for a fascinating talk by Professor Daya Thussu, President of IAMCR and Professor of International Communication at Hong Kong Baptist University. He’ll unpack how Western dominance in global communication—rooted in control over media hardware, software, and narratives—is being challenged by the BRICS nations, especially China, Russia, and India. The session draws from his latest book Changing Geopolitics of Global Communication (Routledge, 2024), exploring how debates over “democratic” vs. “authoritarian” AI reflect deeper geopolitical tensions.
